Cortney grew up in Minot, Maine. She has always had an interest in taking care of others- whether it was the animals on the family farm or the neighbors’ children, she was passionate about helping others and that passion led her to a career in healthcare. She grew up not believing in the word “can’t” and  her parents' inspiration of “if you do not like something fix it.”

Cortney graduated from Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, ME with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2010. After graduation, she held many RN positions in Central and Southern Maine working with a plethora of ill patients both in the hospital setting and outpatient clinics. She worked on multiple medical surgical units taking care of orthopedic, neurosurgical, and cardiac patients. She worked in the outpatient setting as a preceptor for nursing students at Saint Joseph’s College as well as a substitute RN in a local elementary school. She saw the most ill and vulnerable patients working in the Intensive Care Unit at Maine Medical Center, where she felt healthcare needed a change.

While working as a registered nurse, Cortney repeatedly saw many patients that had preventable conditions, but no primary care provider to take care of them. Seeing patient’s health dictated by insurance companies made her want to revolutionize the healthcare system. With this new awareness, she wanted to become part of the healthcare solution and not contribute to the problem. So Cortney decided to go back to college to obtain her Family Nurse Practitioner degree in 2014.

After graduating with her Family Nurse Practitioner degree in the Spring of 2016, Cortney went to work for a local healthcare system in Central Maine. She developed many relationships with patients while taking care of their healthcare needs. She quickly became concerned about the business of healthcare, which she felt was more about the system and less about building relationships and meeting the patients needs.

In the Spring 2021, Cortney purchased a small building in rural South Paris, ME to establish a healthcare facility where her patients could come first. This was the beginning of Live Life Family Practice. Opening her doors established a facility where patients are the center of their healthcare, not the insurance companies. Patient centered, direct care from a primary care provider, a.k.a. “old school medicine.”

Cortney now lives in Poland with her husband, children, and golden retrievers. She loves the outdoors, running, spending time with family and friends. She is passionate about what she does and would love the opportunity to take care of you and your family.
